Spent a fairly wet and unsettled Saturday afternoon tackling Meall a’ Bhuachaille in the Glenmore Forest Park. This handsome, hulking mound lies some 20km from Aviemore and boasts some terrific views over Loch Morlich and the Rothimurcus Pine Forest.
At around 900 metres it’s not a Munro but a Corbett, and the ascent is a fairly a steep but brisk affair, owing to the substantial stone pathway leading direct to its summit. The Ryvoan Bothy below provided a much appreciated retreat from a storm sweeping up through the valley from Inchrory and Tomintoul. The walk also took in Loch Uaine – the Green Loch. A clear-sky ending to the day lifted what were already pretty elevated spirits.
